The year 1989-90 is highlighted.

1989-90 TASFAA Elected Officers:
  • President – Sandra McKee, Methodist Hospital School of Nursing
  • President-Elect – Art Weeden, Rhodes College
  • Past President – Randy Hall, University of Tennessee, Martin
  • Secretary – Anne Rader, State Area Vocational Technical School, Hartsville

  • Member-at-Large – Charlie Gregory, Nashville State Technical Institute
  • Member-at-Large – Sue Harpole, University of Tennessee, Memphis

Ms. McKee’s theme for her year as President was “Focusing TASFAA for the 90s”. She appointed two new committees in 1989-90 – a Special Projects Committee and a Strategic Planning Committee. The Special Projects Committee focused on some new directions for TASFAA in 1989-90 and the Strategic Planning Committee, composed of all the active past presidents of TASFAA, was charged with the goal of evaluating TASFAA and making recommendations for the future.

TASFAA’s special project for 1989-90 was the development of a financial aid summer internship program for guidance counselors and a peer counseling program. The purpose of the summer internship program for guidance counselors was to enable the counselors to be better prepared to assist students and parents, especially those that are economically disadvantaged, with an awareness of the financial aid process and the availability of student financial assistance to attend postsecondary education in Tennessee. The project was sponsored by TASFAA and TSAC.

TASFAA’s Fall Workshop was held October 10-11, 1989 at the Music City Rodeway Inn in Nashville. The event was another record breaker with 193 people attending the conference.

TASFAA’s Spring Conference was held April 29-May 2, 1990 at the Marriott Hotel in Memphis. The conference theme was “New Beginnings.”

February 1990 was designated as Financial Aid Awareness Month.

Crusie Lucero was elected Vice President of SASFAA at the SASFAA Annual Conference held February 11-14, 1990 at the Galt House in Louisville, KY.

NASFAA established a Task Force to gather input through a series of hearings at regional association meetings for Reauthorization. SASFAA’s Reauthorization hearing was held on February 13, 1990 during the annual conference in Louisville, Kentucky. TASFAA had two members to testify at the Reauthorization hearing - Ron Gambill, TASFAA Governmental Relations/Legislative Committee Chair and David Gelinas.

TASFAA Membership Dues were $15.00.

The Crossfeed Editor was David Gelinas, University of the South.
