Tennessee College Goal Sundaysm

Tennessee’s third annual College Goal Sunday (CGS) event was held on February 10, 2008 at thirty-three sites across the state. More than 2,100 students and family members were served by more than 400 on-site volunteers. The great weather and increased marketing efforts resulted in an amazing increase of 49% in attendance from last year.

Both the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) and the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) extend a special “THANKS” to the TASFAA community and to everyone that partnered with us to make our third annual CGS event a huge success. As you might imagine there is a lot of work taking place in advance of the CGS events that is invisible to the students and families that seek our help with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The big payoff continues to be the grateful thanks from the students and family members that attend the CGS events. Without a doubt, this event would not have occurred without the efforts of so many volunteers too numerous to name.

Both Naomi and Darolyn represented Tennessee College Goal Sunday at the National College Goal Sunday Best Practices forum in Charleston, S.C., February 13-17, 2008. The number of states hosting CGS events has increased to 35 across the country, with at least two states coming on board for 2009.

Several schools have already volunteered to be sites for next year, and we’re looking
for more. If you have been thinking about volunteering to be a 2009 CGS site or you need more information before you make your decision, please contact Darolyn Porter or Naomi Derryberry.
